Win customers in 60 seconds: why short-form video works

People decide in seconds whether a brand deserves their attention. Here is what a short video has to do in that time, and what to measure afterwards.

Key takeaways The first three seconds decide whether anyone watches the rest. One clear message per video beats a list of everything you offer. Real people and real places build more trust than polished stock footage. Measure saves, shares and messages, not just views.

Most people scroll past a brand in less than two seconds. A short video is one of the few formats that can stop that thumb, explain what you do and give someone a reason to get in touch, all in under a minute. That is why we build almost every content plan around it.

The first three seconds decide everything

On Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts the opening decides whether anyone sees the rest. A strong start shows the result first, asks a question your customer is already asking, or puts a face on screen that speaks directly to the camera. A logo animation or a slow establishing shot rarely survives the scroll.

  • Show the result before the process: the finished dish, the renovated room, the happy customer.
  • Open with a question: "Still looking for a flat in Berlin?"
  • Put a person on camera in the first frame, not a product shot.

One video, one message

The most common mistake is trying to say everything at once. A 45-second video can carry one idea well: one product, one offer, one answer to one question. If you have five things to say, you have five videos, and that is good news for your content plan.

If your customers ask it in the shop, they are also typing it into a search bar.

Real beats perfect

People trust people. Your team, your space and your customers on camera feel more credible than stock footage, even when the lighting is not perfect. Good sound and stable framing matter far more than expensive effects. That is why we film on location, in the place your customers actually visit.

What to measure

Views tell you how far a video travelled, not whether it worked. For a business the more useful signals are the ones that show intent:

  • Saves and shares: people want to come back to it or show it to someone.
  • Profile visits and website clicks after a video goes live.
  • Messages and enquiries that mention a specific video.
  • How many people watch until the end.

We report these numbers every month, so you can see which topics bring in customers and which only bring in likes. If you want to know which videos would work for your business, book a free strategy call and we will sketch out a first plan with you.
